Writing your approved tune (and reverting to stock)

A tuner has approved your calibration and the download is open. Writing it to the car is the same discipline as reading — stable power, the right tool, no interruptions — plus a careful first start.

One thing to be clear about before you write anything: a modified calibration can affect your vehicle’s type-approval, insurance, and manufacturer warranty, and using it on public roads may be restricted where you live. Flashing is your decision and your responsibility as the owner.

  • Your approved file downloaded from the order page, with its checksum metadata.
  • The delivery notes from your order — they state anything specific to your file.
  • The same tool (or tool family) that performed the read, with write support for your ECU.
  • A battery maintainer connected — a write interrupted by voltage sag is the one failure you really do not want.
  • Your original read kept untouched, in case you ever want stock back.
  1. 01Verify what you downloaded

    Your order page shows the SHA-256 hash of the approved file. If your tool or OS can show a file hash, compare it — the file you write should be byte-for-byte the file the tuner approved.

    Read the delivery notes before connecting anything. If the tuner left instructions (fuel, settling behavior, anything to check), they outrank the generic steps below.

  2. 02Prepare the car exactly like a read

    Battery maintainer on, ignition on, engine off, accessories off, doors closed, key untouched for the duration.

    Writes are less forgiving than reads: where an interrupted read costs you a retry, an interrupted write can leave the ECU in a state that needs recovery before the car runs again. The boring preparation is the whole game.

  3. 03Write the file

    In your tool, select the same ECU you read, choose the write/programming function, and supply the approved file. The tool handles checksums and verification as part of its write procedure — let it finish completely, including any after-write verification pass it runs.

    Do not touch the car or the laptop until the tool reports success. Writing typically takes as long as reading did, sometimes longer.

    If the write fails or is interrupted: do not turn the ignition off, do not unplug anything, do not retry blindly. Follow your tool’s recovery procedure first; if you are unsure, stop and contact support with the tool’s exact messages.

  4. 04First start and first drive

    After a successful write, switch the ignition off for half a minute, then start the engine. Expect a normal idle; some cars need a few seconds longer on the first crank while learned values settle.

    Drive gently until the engine is fully warm before asking for full load. Listen and feel: anything unusual — rough running, warning lights, unexpected noises — means back off and get in touch rather than pushing on.

  5. 05Reverting to stock

    Your original file is stored immutably with its hash from the moment you uploaded it. Revert-to-stock is the same write procedure with that original file — available from your order whenever you want the factory calibration back.

    Reverting before a dealer visit or an inspection is common and entirely up to you; the point of keeping the original byte-exact is that the way back is always known.

The tool refuses to write (version or ID mismatch)
Confirm you selected the exact ECU variant you read and that the file is the one from this order (check the hash). If the tool still refuses, send its exact message to support — do not force a different write mode.
The write was interrupted
Leave everything powered and connected. Run the tool’s recovery procedure for your ECU; most tools can resume or restart a programming session. If the procedure fails or you are unsure at any point, stop and contact support before touching the ignition.
The car runs, but a warning light is on after the flash
Read the fault codes through the same OBD port. A code logged during the write session is often historical and clears; a recurring one is information the tuner wants — send it with your order reference.
I want the stock file back
Request revert-to-stock on your order page and write the original exactly like the tune — same power discipline, same patience.
